Folios 367-368: Richard King, HMS Achille, off Cherbourg. Encloses letter from Lieutenant Frederick William Rooke who was superseded about three years ago for the same complaint in his chest. After about nine months on shore he was better and was re-appointed to the Achille. Trusts that he will be granted permission to go on shore, as it is not a case that will allow him to be admitted to hospital.
Folios 369-370: enclosure with folios 367-368. Letter from Frederick William Rooke, HMS Achille, off Cherbourg to J. W. Croker, at the Admiralty dated 13 November 1809. Requests that he may be superceded from the Achille as he is suffering from a complaint which prevents him from carrying out his duties. This is the same illness he was troubled with three years previously and is not treatable in hospital. When well will immediately report for duty.
