Description

Folios 319-320: William Hugh Kittoe, Regulating Officer, Southampton. Acknowledges receipt of Admiralty letter of 16 June with three documents relating to Robert Trifet, a seaman impressed on 19 December 1808, together with Admiralty directions. Confirms that Robert Trifet was impressed on night of 19 December 1808 whilst drinking in an alehouse in Redbridge.

Folios 321-322: enclosure with folios 319-320. Letter from [?] Taylor, Revenue Collector, Custom House, Sunderland dated 13 June 1809 to the Admiralty. Has made frequent applications to procure the discharge of people impressed into His Majesty's Service, which because of his Public Office is expected of him. Requests information on how he should make such applications.

Folios 323-324: enclosure with folios 319-320. Letter from [?] Taylor, Revenue Collector, Custom House, Sunderland dated 13 June 1809 to the Admiralty. On 21 December 1808 Robert Trifet was impressed whilst on shore on the business of the ship to which he belonged. This is set out in enclosed Affidavit from which it appears he is Chief Mate. Requests his discharge.

Folio 325: enclosure with folios 319-320. Affidavit given by John Smith of Sunderland, County Durham, Master Mariner on 21 December 1808. States that Robert Trifet on the vessel, The George of Ramsgate, was impressed at Redbridge whilst on shore putting a letter relating to the ship's business into the Post Office. Sworn before HM Justice of the Peace in the County of Durham - G. Robinson
