Description

Folios 217-218: Edward Killwick, HMS Princess, Liverpool. Encloses two letters. One from Lieutenant Braddell requesting him to apply to their Lordships for him to be superceded so that he can return to his friends on shore to"recruit" his health. The other from the Surgeon stating that Lieutenant Braddell has recently shown strong symptoms of insanity and is not capable of performing his duties. Requests that their Lordships supercede Lieutenant Braddell as the most serious consequences might arise from having an officer in his state of health.

Folios 219-220: enclosure with folios 217-218. Letter from Joseph Dallaway, Surgeon, HMS Princess, Liverpool to Captain Killwick dated 2 July 1809. States that Lieutenant J. T. Braddell of HMS Princess has, at various times, shown strong symptoms of insanity from which his health is much impaired so as to render him incapable of holding a command or attending to his duty. Suggests he should be removed from duty in order to"recruit" his health in the country.

Folios 221-223: enclosure with folios 217-218. Letter from John T. Braddell, HMS Princess, off Liverpool to Captain Killwick dated 2 July 1809. States that from the ill health that he labours under, and has done for the last six weeks, begs he request their Lordships to cause him to be superceded. This would allow him to recover among his friends, which hopes to accomplish within two ro three months.
