Folios 236-237: John Knowles, Guernsey. Regarding an order to look after and apprehend Nicholas [Torode?] and to send him onboard HMS Royal Sovereign at the first opportunity, enclosing a statement regarding the affair which was sent to the Secretary in September 1794, together with his reasons, in some detail, for not signing Lieutenant Holmes's monthly returns.
Folios 238-239: enclosure with folios 236-237. Copy of letter dated 3 September 1794 from Holmes explaining to their Lordships the room as a rendezvous and the rent he paid to Hugh and Ann Duff; also copy of a letter dated 29 June 1796 from Knowles explaining he had refused to sign the returns from Holmes for lack of receipts; also copy of the agreement between Holmes and the Duffs at the Globe Tavern, Guernsey on 10 April 1794, for a large and a small room; also copy of the receipt for the rent received from Holmes, marked (signed) by Ann Duff; also copy of a second receipt, again marked by Ann Duff.
