Folios 172-173: Jonathan Knowles, Guernsey. He encloses his returns from 15 November, (not enclosed.) He refers to a letter he received from the Admiralty dated 21 November 1796, informing him that Sir Richard Strachan had been asked to send a vessel to Guernsey for the purpose of taking off men. He has had no sight of any such vessel. He presently has two deserters and one vounteer, but has nowhere to keep them. Accordingly, he has sent them to Plymouth on a ship heading in that direction. He had been put to the expense of £7 each, for passage and subsistence. He will be given a receipt by Captain Boger of HMS Cambridge who has taken them on board. He asks for instructions as to whether he should adopt this model in the future.
