Folio 133: James Hillyar, HMS Phoebe, at sea. Refers to the accompanying packet of information about his communications with the governor of Chile and the complaints of British merchants. Mr Munro, 14 May 1814 wrote about the losses sustained in the expedition of the Portuguese ship La Fama. Hillyar provides further details of events.
Folio 134: enclosure with folio 133. Letter dated 19 May 1814 by James Hillyar, HMS Phoebe, Valparaiso Bay. Writes that because Captain David Porter asserts that the Essex was captured within the limits of the port he, Hillyar, addressed the Supreme Director on the subject. The claim was found to be groundless.
Folio 135: folio number not used.
Folios 136-137: enclosure with folio 133. Letter by Fransisco de Formas, Valparaiso in Spanish to James Hillyar. A note in pencil on the revers suggests that it concerns the burning of the Essex and the distance at which the event took place
Folios 138-139: enclosure with folio 133. Letter dated 16 May 1814 by Francisco dela Lastra to James Hillyar in Spanish. A note on the revers states that it is from the Supreme Director referring to the capture of the Essex.
