Description

Folios 203-204: Charles Hare, Acting Commander, HMS Manly, Halifax. You will be pleased to honour him with a continuance of patronage by letter dated 24 March 1813 informing him his name is on a list for promotion. [Letter is support of his promotion with a list of Armed Vessels Destroyed and Taken by HMS Bream between 23 November 1812 and 24 September 1813.

Folios 205-206: enclosure with folios 203-204. Humphrey Fleming Senhouse, HMS Martin, Bay of Fundy. To Lieutenant Charles Hare, HMS Bredin. 29 January 1814. Appointment as acting Commander of HMS Manly.

Folios 208-209: enclosure with folios 203-204. Letter from the Merchants, Ship Owners and Principal Inhabitants of St John, New Brunswick. To John Borlase Warren Bart. & KB, Commander in Chief on the American Station. Undated. On the departure of HMS Bream they would like to express their gratitude to Mr Charles Hare her Commanding Officer not only for the protection but the active assistance which he has afforded to our commerce in the Bay of Fundy. We wish to request you consider to continue the service at this Station. Signed by fifty seven people.

Folio 210: enclosure with folios 203-204. Charles Hare, Halifax. [Reply to the above letter - Folios 208-209] He fears you attach much more value to your appointment to HMS Manly, than it will turn out to be worth; for he [would] not support that the Commander in Chief will allow any officer to act under an appointment of mine .....
