Description

Folios 160-161: Thomas Heddington, Regulating Captain, Lynn. Reports that Dennis Allen was pressed from the Fountaine of Lynn, a Greenland ship belonging to Mr Hogg, by Lieutenant Charles Gayton Warren on 13 August and was one of the two men whose impressment sparked the riot that day. The other was Samuel Jaggs who has already been discharged. Mr Hogg's clerk told him several days ago that they were asking their London correspondents to offer £40 for the discharge of Allen, but he did not expect the application in the enclosed letter from Messrs Flowerdew & Davidson [sic]. Hopes Allen will not be discharged because that would be harmful to the Impress Service. He is 19 years old, has been at sea 4 ½ years and was 18 months out of his indentures when impressed.

Folios 162-163: enclosed with folios 160-161. Letter dated 30 August 1813 from Flowerdew Davidson and James Ward, 58 Beer Lane, to the Admiralty. Ask for the discharge of Dennis Allen, who was impressed from the Fountaine, Captain Barton, in the Lynn Channel, because he had a protection for the voyage but it had not been completed on the day he was impressed.
