Folios 172-173: Peter Heywood, Buenos Aires. Refers back to his previous dispatch of letters and documents [Folios 141-156]. The enclosed arrived after the Bonne Citoyenne had sailed. There is a report that when he heard of the war against the United States Admiral Manley Dixon ordered the trade to wait at Rio de Janeiro for a convoy. He may have intended the Bonne Citoyenne to lead it. He cannot confirm this. It is said that the ship was carrying 1.5 million dollars, mostly in gold and he has had requests to carry more specie to England. Many of the merchants want him to transport it to England as they feel it would be safe on HMS Nereus. (He feels he deserves a chance for profit) He encloses 2 papers which General Vigodet gave him. One is a letter from his government, the other some proposals made to him concerning the surrender of the place which he considered insulting. Reports also"there is a little intriguing American chap ...of the name Poincett" who calls himself the Consul General and is stirring up anti British feeling in Chile.
