Folios 183-184: Richard Hawkins, HMS Minerva. Advises that Captain Ferris, HMS Diana, has asked to have his brother, Lieutenant Abel Hawkins appointed as First Lieutenant. Advises that he served as First Lieutenant of HMS Hydra but has been on half pay for 12 months since the ship was paid off.
Folios 185-186: enclosed with folios 183-184. Letter by Captain William Ferris, HMS Diana. Asks for Lieutenant Abel Hawkins, Saltash, to be appointed First Lieutenant. Advises that Sir John Gordon Sinclair was appointed First Lieutenant replacing Lieutenant Charles Turner but his methods and sentiments can never accord with his.
