Description

Folios 231-232: William Buckley Hunt, HMS Britomart, at Sea off Texel. As per an order from Vice Admiral [Billy] Douglas to report the case of Robert Chigwell - Apprentice, who was impressed by Lieutenant George Young (since superceded) out of the Lady Harwood passing through the Downs on 12 July 1809 at night. Lieutenant Young said there was no indenture on board; and it appeared by the indenture that the year had been erased, also that it is for Robert Chigwell & by the Register of Baptism he is called Robert Thomas and the signature of his name on the Indenture does not correspond for he can neither read nor write. He returns the enclosure.

Folio 233: enclosure with folios 231-232. Letter from John Humble, 9 King Edward Street, Wapping, to theo Admiralty, dated 22 February 1810. Request the discharge of Robert Thomas Chigwell an Apprentice to Mr Wilson of Rotherhith by Indenture dated 2 December 1807, nor has he attained the age of 18 years as appears by his indenture & the Register of his Baptism & Birth here inclosed [not present]. He was impressed from the Lady Harwood on 13 July 1809.
