Folios 179-180: Richard Hughes, Sea Fencibles, Sligo. He report that the Petitions preferred by Patrick Gormen is altogether impossible to have occurred (more than that a recommendation did certainly come to him from Brigadier General Prime in his behalf and from the respect he bore that offer, he much lamented it was out of his power to comply with the same). The fact is the Signal Station of Stredagh [Streedagh] being a rower attached to Grange, is in itself two miles distant from the Sea and has no Maritime Post whatever attached to it. The above Signal Station never having been occupied by a Naval Officer since its first elevation, no Appointment, could, or has taken place of Petty Officer or Signal Men from his joining this District in January 1808. For a confirmation of this statement I refer ro Captain James Leckey the Commanding Officer of the District from Killala to Ballyshannon under who's orders he has acted.
