Folios 168-169: Thomas Heddington, Regulating Officer, North Yarmouth. Covering letter for the return of Lieutenant Gilchrist's letter [not present] and assure that every exertion is making to apprehend William Gardner the Deserter named therein. At the same time (referring to [Lieutenant] Mr Gilchrists letter) he is bound to observe that the man was not in the last stage of venereal but had recently contracted that disease and from the Surgeons report to him, and the man having the appearance of strength and health, and being an Able Seaman 29 years of age - He did not hesitate about receiving him as a substitute, not doubting that he would very soon prove to be, a very valuable man at sea.
