Description

Folios 128-131: Henry Higman, HMS Gluckstadt, Sheerness Harbour. His request for alterations to HMS Gluckstadt , the Dock Yard only have orders to take her on the Graving Slip which does not come under the Head of Docking. And HMS Gluckstadt from the strength of her Scantlings is of that description that he trusts she will seldom trouble the Harbour. Request she be allowed into dock to receive the addition of a false Keel presuming the other part of the request may be made good afloat. He is informed that HMS Glomen [HMS Glommen] a Danish Vessel of this class has answered extremely well since she has undergone similar alterations. Folio 129. Henry Higman, HMS Gluckstadt, Little Nore. To Admiralty. Dated 7 February 1810. As HMS Gluckstadt is about to be taken on the Graving Slip [Details of problems temporary solutions and possible alterations to improve the ships handling. Mentions Captain [Edward] Bass].

Folio 130: enclosure with folios 128-131. Letter dated 9 February 1810 by J L Hartwell, William Surle & H Legge, Navy Office, to Henry Higman, HMS Gluckstadt. Acknowledge receipt of your letter of 7 February 1810 and acquaint you we have directed the Officers of Sheerness Yard to give HMS Gluckstadt an additional false Keel if she is docked; to raise the Channels & floor of the Magazine, and to supply her with 15 tons of iron ballast in addition to her current ballast.
