Description

Folios 121-122: George Hills, HMS Columbine, Spithead. Reports the arrival of HMS Columbine with the Royal Yeoman Transport from Halifax, being part of the Convoy with which he sailed from Halifax on 12 January 1810. The rest of the Convoy. six in number, parted company under circumstances as expressed in the inclosed [not present] List of the Convoy, and although directed by his orders (of which a copy is inclosed) to proceed to the Downs, he has considered it his duty form having no ships to Convoy there, to put into this Port. He encloses a List of the Defects of HMS Columbine and a Journal of his proceedings since the 12 January 1810.

Folio 123: enclosure with folios 121-122. Letter dated 11 January 1810 by Samuel John Pechell, HMS Cleopatra, Halifax, to George Hills, HMS Columbine. His Excellency the Governor having sent him a Memorial from the Merchants of Halifax, requesting that the Convoy might be detained to enable them to answer the Letter received today in the mail from Bermuda. You are required and directed not to put to Sea until Sunday Morning, when you will without delay to put your former orders in execution.

Folio 124: enclosure with folios 121-122. Letter dated 15 December 1809 by Samuel John Pechell, HMS Cleopatra, Halifax, to George Hills, HMS Columbine. Not withstanding former orders you are required and directed to wait for and take under your protection and Convoy to England the William Store ship.

Folios 125-126: enclosure with folios 121-122. Orders dated 13 November 1809 by the Right Honourable Sir John Borlase Warren [(1st Baronet of Little Marlow)], Halifax, to George Hills, HMS Columbine. Orders to take a Convoy to England.

Folio 127: enclosure with folios 121-122. Defects of HMS Columbine, report dated 9 February 1810. Signed George Hills & Alexander Bontron - Carpenter.
