Folios 315-316: Joshua Sydney Horton, Liverpool Regulating Captain. Reply to letter 20 September. David Ayres age 23. Description didn’t matched protection. Lieutenant Rees spoke to him in Welsh and he replied. Margaret Hughes’s letter confirms suspicions. William Freeman age 24 said he was born in America. Enclosed protection altered and heights different. [No longer present]. Abel Tochnett age 22 produced enclosed protection December 1807. Said it was his first received three months since with the American Consul. William Parker age 36 born in America had no protection only a blank certificate enclosed [no longer present]. Arrived from Ayr, Scotland. William Francis age 24 is William Williams from Carnarvon, been to and from Liverpool, past seven years. Returns enclosures.

Folios 321-322: enclosed in folios 315-316. Abel Tocnet, Massachusetts printed protection. Age 19 born Gay Head [Wampanoag] Dukes County, Mass. Dark complexion black eyes. Signed John Pease, Collector, 4 December 1807.
Folios 323-324: attached to folios 321-322. Jonathan Hillman, Master, the American brig Venus, Affidavit before James Gildart JP. Liverpool, 14 September 1809. Abel Talknot, sailor and man of colour on Venus brig from New York, impressed on HMS Princess is an American citizen. Born in Martha’s Vinyard, Massachusetts has known him since infancy, lived two miles from him.
