Folios 283-284: Joshua Sydney Horton, Liverpool Regulating Captain. Reply to letter 15th. John Armstrong, age 22 born Maryport. Indenture date altered, suspected being his second: William Williams age 23 born Wales: Thomas Allen, boy age 13 and John Horrocks, boy age 16 born Manchester both denied being apprentices: Samuel Thompson age 35 born Bedford: John Simson age 19 born Lancashire. Indenture produced to claim him dated 18 February 1806. Belongs to Adonis of Montreal: John Jones age 21 born Carnarvon, acknowledged he had made two sea voyages in Claude Scott of Liverpool. Nobody appeared to claim him: Charles Turner age 22 volunteered as Charles Thomas, born Africa. Arrived on the Traveler. No one came to claim him. Returns enclosures.
Folios 285-286: enclosed in folios 283-284. Margaret Armstrong, 21 Rigby Street, Liverpool, 12 September 1809. Widow supporting four children. Petitioning for her son John Armstrong impressed onboard HMS Princess. Says he had an error in his indenture. Her eldest son is 14 years in HM service. Requests supplying a substitute.
Folios 287-288: enclosed in folios 283-284. David Evans, Liverpool, 13 September. Friends of William Williams, Ordinary Seaman of Caernarvonshire, Wales. Ask what should they do to secure his discharge. Has a wife and three children.
Folios 289-290: enclosed in folios 283-284. Anne Allen, Widow, South Sea, 9 Jacksons Row, Manchester, 13 September 1809. Petition for son Thomas Allen age 12. Brought to Liverpool by an older boy who returning to Manchester saying he got a shilling on HMS Princess.
Folios 291-292: enclosed in folios 283-284. Ann Horrocks, widow, 15 Jacksons Row, Anne’s Gate, Manchester, 13 September 1809. Husband entered army seven years ago and died abroad. Eldest sons in 95th Rifle Cops went to Flushing the other in 51st Regiment at Isle of White. Youngest John Horrocks age 12 worked in a Manchester factory for six pence a week. A big boy got him to Liverpool to enlist for a shilling.
Folios 293-294: enclosed in folios 283-284. Samuel Thompson age 36, c/o William Anderson, 19 Peter Street, Whitechapel, Liverpool, 13 September 1809. Entered while intoxicated. A landsman never been to sea, asks to find two substitutes. Says he is often in poor health. Cares for his blind old mother. Folios 295-296 enclosed in folios 283-284: Henry Parker, Master, the Thetis, Liverpool, 14 September 1809. Petitions for John Simson his apprentice impressed on HMS Princess. Simson has five months to serve and is invaluable to him.
Folio 297: enclosed in folios 295-296. Affidavit; Henry Parker Master the Thetis 1806 John Simson bound himself 7 years, 13 October 1808 before William Creslue [?], Liverpool JP.
Folios 298-299: enclosed in folios 283-284. William Jones, Porter, 15 Lever Street, Liverpool, 14 September 1809. Petitions son John age 18 apprentice impressed two weeks ago. His Master pays him seven shillings a week. Four children. His pregnant wife daily expects to be taken to be brought to bed. [Indenture no longer present].
Folios 300-301: enclosed in folios 283-284. John Douglas, Liverpool, 14 September 1809. Writing for Charles Turner a 'negro boy' who came from the Demerary Colony [Guyana] with Mr Turner his Master. Was Douglas's servant till he was impressed. Never been at sea as a sailor, cooked on the voyage home. Adds after years of service Mr Turner rewarded him with his freedom.
