Description

Folios 216-217: Joshua Sydney Horton, Liverpool Regulating Captain. Reply to letter 12 September. Thomas Powel age 35 born Ireland ordered to be discharged on his receiving two able bodied landsmen was apprehended after his wife said he’ was at sea for six years. John Sumner age fifteen said he wasn't an apprentice. John Singleton age 18 born Kirkdale [Liverpool] said he wasn't an apprentice. Reports Lieutenant Thomas Gidney has arrived at HMS Betsey Caines tender to replace Lieutenant Clarributt.

Folios 218-219: enclosure with folios 216-217. John W. Murch, No 8 Dry Dock, Liverpool, 9 September 1809. Writes for his apprentice John Sumner impressed 7th. Was unable to get his indentures to him to get him released.

Folios 220-2221: enclosure with folios 216-217. Elizabeth Powel, 74 Crosshall Street, Whitechapel, Liverpool, 29 August 1809. Her husband Thomas Powel, landsman impressed 18 August. Four children to support. Asks to find a substitute.

Folios 222-223: enclosure with folios 216-217. Thomas Singleton, Kirkgate, Liverpool, 10 September 1809. His son John Singleton age 16 apprentice hatter. Says he’s a poor laboring man. Asks can he provide a substitute for his sons discharge?
