Description

Folios 207-208: Joshua Sydney Horton, Liverpool Regulating Captain. Reply to letter 9 September. Richard Reed age 18 born in Wellington. Offered himself as a substitute but was too short then volunteered. Neil Campbell impressed age 27 born Scotland. The Ellis’s Master. Produced no register, was claimed later. Impressed onshore 9pm. William Kelly age 20 born Isle of Man. Letter from Mr Forbes saying Bernard Matthews and Joseph Brown substitutes for his son Robert are onboard HMS Sandwich. Requests his discharge. Liverpool Master Riggers, Thomas Windover, John Stapleton, David Roberts, John Dunn, William St Leger, William Jackson, Richard Mather, Alexander Sharpe and Thomas Smith request protections for thirty men each.

Folios 209-210: enclosed in folios 207-208.Thomas Hams, Builder, Abbey Foregate, Shrewsbury, sworn before W. Smith JP, 6 September 1809. Lieutenant Killick, HMS Princess said send indenture [no longer present] for Richard Read, age 16 his apprentice who told he’d get to the West Indies entered at Liverpool. Has five years of apprenticeship. Requests his discharge.

Folios 211-212: enclosed in folios 207-208. Neil Camel, HMS Princess, Liverpool, 7 September 1809. Mate of the Ellis sloop, was impressed Sunday. Has wife and three children with no one else to support them. Asks to supply two landsmen for his discharge.

Folios 213-214: enclosed in folios 207-208. Isabella Kelly, c/o Edward Bartley, Crib Court, Queen Street, Liverpool, 6 September 1809. Petition; three small children, son William Kelly, Joiner her source on income is impressed on HMS Princess. Requests his discharge.
