Description

Folios 170-171: Joshua Sydney Horton, Liverpool Regulating Captain. Reply to letter 6 September. Thomas Davis age 23 born Wales said he was Mate of the Diligence. Impressed on shore after eleven o’clock at night. Joseph Shore age 13 sent from the Macclesfield magistrates with six others was declared fit by the surgeon. John Eden age 19 born Liverpool. Impressed because indentured by his father in law a Liverpool Master Rigger, believed it his second indenture; Rowland Michael age 28 born Wales. Appeared a seafarer. Said he was a smith only no one came to claim him. Sends list of men raised [no longer present]. Returns enclosures.

Folios 172-173: enclosed in folios 170-171. William Starling and John Brodie, 15 Liver Street, Liverpool, 4 September 1809 affidavit before Thomas Naylor JP. Says John Eden apprentice of John Brodie, Master, Provenance schooner of Liverpool has not been at sea. Brodie told he needed to produce an affidavit before getting him liberated.

Folios 174-175: enclosed in folios 170-171. Ester Shore widow Joseph Shore age 12’s mother c/o Mrs Aderton, 1 Gibraltar [Court?] near Holland Bridge, Manchester, 5 September 1809. Has eight children. Worked in a factory for six shillings a week was tricked by six other boys.

Folios 176-177: enclosed in folios 170-171. Griffith Evans, Liverpool, 4 September 1809. Seeking to have Thomas Davis, Ordinary Seaman discharged.

Folios 178-179: enclosed in folios 170-171. George Harris, Liverpool, 5 September 1809. Requesting Rowland Michael release from HMS Princess frigate. Say he’s a landsman. Only been to sea by packet from Beaumaris. Family from Almwch. Worked for Taylor & Co, Anchorsmiths, Liverpool supporting his widowed mother.
