Description

Folios 280-281: Joshua Sydney Horton, Regulating Captain, Liverpool. Reports that Lieutenant Hyde John Clarke impressed Norman McLellan, born in Scotland, on 1 August and that McLellan said he was part owner of the Brother of Oban. His name appears on the register as part owner, but he has no protection. James Doolan of Liverpool was impressed on the same day. An indenture was produced to try to secure his release, but it showed that he had been at sea for four years.

Seeks the discharge of Normand McLellan [Norman McLellan], a native of the island of Uist, who has been impressed and sent aboard HMS Princess while he was in Liverpool buying provisions fer a vessel of which he is part owner.

Folios 284-285: enclosed with folios 280-281. Letter dated 3 August 1809 by Elizabeth Doolan, at Mrs Robinson, 20 Brownlow Hill, Liverpool, to the Admiralty. Seeks the discharge of her son James Doolan, aged 16, who is now aboard HMS Princess, if she can produce a substitute.
