Description

Folios 254-255: Joshua Sydney Horton, Regulating Captain, Liverpool. Reports on the impressment of five men. Matthew Richardson, 15, volunteered with Lieutenant James Rees on 16 July and declared he was not an apprentice. William Brown was sent by the Magistrates at Liverpool as a volunteer aged 28 and born in Ireland. John Smith, born in Ireland, volunteered with Lieutenant Rees as substitute for John Sherrack [John Sharrock]. William McAdam said his age was 19 when he was impressed, but the indenture he produced said he was 18. Encloses a discharge certificate for John Holloway from HMS Gladiator, but it does not specify the disease for which he was discharged and the Surgeon does not believe he suffers from any complaint.

Folio 264: enclosed with folios 254-255. Affidavit dated 26 July 1809 sworn by John Philips, Liverpool, before Mayor James Gerard that Mathew Richardson, son of Edward Richardson of Liverpool, is his apprentice as a cordwainer. Believes he is aboard HMS Princess, asks for his discharge.
