Description

Folios 252-253: Joshua Sydney Horton, Regulating Captain, Liverpool. Reports on the impressment of five men. Thomas Kerridge was impressed by Lieutenant James Rees on 22 July and claimed to have been born in New York. He had no protection, but encloses [not present] his passport for the return voyage from Rotterdam to America. He says he arrived in the Betsey, Captain Glover. John Joseph was impressed by Lieutenant Rees on 21 July and says he was born in Martinique, but Captain Horton believes this should be St Croix. He arrived in the Boston from New York. James Henry was impressed on 19 July and said he was born in Nantucket. The enclosed protection [not present] refers to Henry James, believes it has been altered. James Connelly was impressed on 22 July and says he was born in America, but the Master of the vessel he arrived in said he was married to Connelly's sister and that he was a native of Greenock. Thomas Marshall was also impressed on 22 July and said he was born in New York and produced the enclosed certificate [not present], but when examined by the American Consul's deputy seemed ignorant of that city. Captain Horton's information is that Marshall is a native of Ireland.
