Folios 227-228: Joshua Sydney Horton, Regulating Captain, Liverpool. Reports that John Lamzed, born at Dartmouth, was impressed by Lieutenant Thomas Evans on 14 July, having arrived aboard the Ann of Dartmouth. An indenture was subsequently produced to claim him, but believes it is out of date because the Master has taken command of another vessel. Alexander McLean from Argyleshire was impressed by Lieutenant Evans on 12 July. He claimed he was the Master of John of Rothsay [Rothesay], but could not prove it. Joseph Clayton [Joseph Cleaton], born at Stockport, volunteered on the same day. Reports that HMS Swallow has sailed for Plymouth with 100 men.
Folios 229-230: enclosed with folios 227-228. Petition dated 19 July 1809 by Thomas Silly, Dartmouth, late Master of the schooner Ann, to the Admiralty. Asks for the discharge of his apprentice John Lamzed, encloses his indenture and an affidavit from the present Master, Richard Weeks Steer.
Folio 231:enclosed with folios 227-228. Affidavit sworn by Richard Weeks Steer, Master of the schooner Ann of Dartmouth, before Justice of the Peace Thomas Molyneux, Liverpool, 15 July 1809. Reports that John Lamzed, apprentice to Thomas Silly of Dartmouth, was impressed from aboard the vessel that morning, and that even though he produced Lamzed's indenture at the rendezvous, the Regulating Captain refused to release him.
Folio 232: enclosed with folio 229. Affidavit sworn by Thomas Silly before Henry Holdsworth, Mayor of Clifton, 25 March 1809. John Lamzed has been his apprentice for three years and had never served at sea before that.
Folios 233-234: enclosed with folios 227-228. Letter dated 18 July 1809 from Alexander McLean, HMS Princess, Liverpool. Asks for his discharge if he can find two substitutes.
Folio 235: enclosed with folios 227-228. Petition dated 19 July 1809 from Sarah Cleaton, 13 Henrey Street, near Ancets [?] Lane, Manchester, to the Admiralty. As the mother of eight fatherless children, asks for the release of her son Joseph Cleaton.
