Description

Folio 187: Joshua Sydney Horton, Regulating Captain, Liverpool. Reports that Nicholas Cunningham was impressed by Lieutenant Thomas Evans on 14 June because of information that he has used the sea before. He later broke out of the Press Room and tried to escape, but was re-captured. William Dennison from Londonderry was impressed by Lieutenant James Rees on 2 July. He said he was Mate of the Maria, but was found on shore. Thomas Gorst volunteered with Lieutenant Hyde John Clarke as a substitute for William Fazakerly serving on HMS Powerful. Gorst was born in Cheshire.

Folio 189: Enclosed with folio 187. Petition dated 9 July 1809 from Ellen Cunningham, Bredfont [?] Court, Brick Street, Liverpool, to the Admiralty. Asks for the release of her husband Nicholas Cunningham. Mentions four small children and a father aged 85 to support.

Folio 190: Cover for folio 189.

Folio 191: Enclosed with folio 187. Letter dated 4 July 1809 from William Dennison, HMS Princess, off Liverpool. Asks for his discharge, having a wife and four children to support.

Folio 192: Cover for folio 191.

Folios 193-194: Enclosure with folios 187. Letter dated 6 July 1809 from Thomas Gorst, HMS Princess, off Liverpool. States he foolishly entered himself as a substitute while intoxicated. Has a wife and two small children. Asks to be released on condition he finds two substitutes to take his place.
