Description

Folio 172: Joshua Sydney Horton, Regulating Captain, Liverpool. Reports that John Ward, born in Cheshire, was impressed by Lieutenant Thomas Evans after arriving from the West Indies in the Shipley. He has forwarded the request to discharge John Green to Commander Edward Kilwick. Encloses [not present] the weekly return of men raised.

Folio 173: [Blank].

Folio 174: Enclosed with folio 172. Petition dated 4 July 1809 by James Ward, Manchester, to the Admiralty. Seeks the discharge of his son John Ward, who was pressed at Liverpool and is now aboard HMS Princess. His son is his only support in his old age.

Folio 175: Enclosed with folio 172. Letter dated 3 July 1809 from Vice-Admiral George Bowen, Dublin, to the Admiralty. Encloses a letter he received from Captain John Baker Hay, commanding the Sea Fencibles at Cove.

Folios 177-178: Enclosed with folio 172. Letter dated 1 July 1809 from Captain George Baker Hay, commanding the Sea Fencibles between Cork and Youghall, to Vice Admiral George Bowen, Dublin. Reports that John Green, a Sea Fencilble under his command and a Pilot, has been impressed at Liverpool. States the importance of allowing Sea Fencibles occasionally to be able to sail in merchant ships.
