Folios 525-526: Joshua Sydney Horton, Regulating Officer, Liverpool. Replying to the letter of 24 April. Two substitutes have been received for Joseph Ritson, as set out on the back of the letter (enclosed) which he now returns. Captain Colquitt has reported that he has the original letter to Mrs Margaret Ritson with Captain Horton's receipts endorsed on the back, and that he sent the copy to prove the date of discharge of the person for whom the substitutes were found. In reply to the letter of 27 April, James Gleave, born in Manchester, entered with Lieutenant Evans on 26 November [1808] as a landsman Volunteer, substitute for Richard Stringer. He denied being an apprentice. George Fisher, born in Shields, was pressed by Lieutenant Rees on 16 April as an Able Seaman. He came in the Swift of Guernsey, Master Samuel Davids, and had sailed in her under the name of George Forage, as per the ship's articles produced. He returns the enclosures. Also sends the weekly return of men raised at Liverpool [not present].
Folio 527-528: enclosure with folios 525-536. Copy letter dated 21 October 1809 from John Barrow, Admiralty Office to Mrs Margaret Ritson, 24 Grayson Street, Liverpool. The Admiralty Office has directed Captain Horton to discharge Joseph Ritson on receipt of an Able Seaman, or two able-bodied Landsmen, as substitutes.
Folios 529-530: enclosure with folios 525-536. Petition dated 25 April 1809 from George Fisher, currently on board HMS Princess, Liverpool, for his discharge on obtaining a substitute.
Folio 531: enclosure with folios 525-536. Petition dated 25 April 1809 from John Whittaker, 39 Tibb Street, Manchester, for the release of his apprentice, James Gleave, currently on board HMS Ruby in The Downs. The apprentice was persuaded by a Liverpool woman to go to Liverpool and taken to the Rendezvous. He had no knowledge of this until he received a letter from the apprentice. He needs him to carry on his trade, He encloses the indenture [not present].
