Folios 400-401: Joshua Sydney Horton, Regulating Officer, Liverpool. Replying to the letter of 20 March. Daniel Douge, who said he was born in New Jersey, was pressed by Lieutenant Rees on 15 March as an Ordinary Seaman. He had no Protection, and the information was that he was a British subject. He returns the enclosure.
Folios 402-403: enclosure with folios 400-401. Letter dated 18 March 1809 from John Alen, Liverpool, to The Admiralty. He is Master of a vessel which has just arrived in Liverpool from the United States. Explains that it is not custom for the crew to carry their Certificates of Citizenship. Sends the list of crew [not present], as held by the Captain, showing their citizenship and asks for the discharge of Daniel Douge in the Role d'Equipage. The reply should be addressed to Messrs Cripper, Benson and Co.
