Description

Folios 394-395: Joshua Sydney Horton, Regulating Officer, Liverpool. Replying to the letter of 17 March. The name William Bowden, does not appear on the books. Thomas Boardman's case has been reported in the letter of 18 March [see folio 386], Matthew Thompson was sent to Lieutenant Rees' Rendezvous on 31 January as an Able Seaman and a deserter from HMS Osprey. He was arrested by a Serjeant of the Marines, to whom he confessed that he had deserted in 1799. He was sent from Liverpool to Preston, and the reward money of £2 15s has been paid to John Bizigar, Serjeant of the Royal Marines Recruiting Service at Preston. He returns the enclosures.

Folios 396-397: enclosure with folios 394-395. Letter dated 13 March 1809 from ? Davis, 5 Brunswick Street, Liverpool to The Admiralty. He has been asked by friends of Thomas Bowden, who was pressed approximately 5 weeks ago and is now on board HMS Princess, to apply for his discharge. Asks to know the conditions for his discharge.

Folios 398-399: enclosure with folios 394-395. Petition to The Admiralty dated 10 March 1809 from Margery Thompson, Blackburn, Lancashire, for the discharge of Matthew Thompson. He is a weaver by trade, unfit for service, and needed to support his wife and 4 young children. Countersigned by John Haydock, William Lutiner, Minister of Balderstone, Harry Thompson, overseer of Samlesbury.
