Folios 379-380: Joshua Sydney Horton, Regulating Officer, Liverpool. responding to the letter of 13 March. Edward Evans, born in Wales, was pressed by Lieutenant Rees as an Able Seaman. He had been taken about 9 months previously after information received, but was rescued by a mob while en route to the Rendezvous. When last pressed he claimed to be American and produced a Protection granted for a Joseph Allen of Rhode Island, whom he attempted to impersonate. William Johnson, born in Nottinghamshire, entered with Lieutenant Rees on 8 March as an Able Volunteer. He was perfectly sober and Captain Horton does not believe the details in the application. Thomas Vile, said to be born in Massachusetts, was pressed by Lieutenant Evans on 16 February, on information that he was born in Chester. as stated in the letter of 24 February, when asked to write his name, he wrote Thomas Wild. he was questioned in the presence of the American deputy Consul, could not give a satisfactory account of himself, and did not match the description in the Protection. He is evidently not the same person. He returns the enclosures. The letter relating to Robert Ratcliffe, who was pressed and sent on board HMS Princess from the Isle of Man, has been forwarded to Captain Colquitt for a reply. Also reports that Mr Evitt, who was ordered in a letter of 27 August to be discharged on production of 2 substitutes, has declared that he is unable to find a second, and has sailed to Plymouth. Captain Horton has considered James Kaye, a Landsman volunteer received as a substitute for him on 18 November, as raised as a second substitute for Thomas Lewis. The expenses of raising him have been repaid to the wife of Mr Evitt.
Folios 380-381: enclosure with folios 379-380. Undated petition of Margaret Evans, 27 Dennis Street, to The Admiralty. Petition for the release of her husband Edward Evans, currently on board HMS Princess. Is willing to produce substitutes.

The wife of William Johnson, who entered His Majesty's service while intoxicated, has asked the writer to apply for his release. By trade a weaver, he has worked as a boatman for the last 8 -10 months. Requests his discharge on finding sufficient substitutes.
