Description

Folios 309-310: Joshua Sydney Horton, Regulating Officer, Liverpool. replying to the letters of 24 and 25 February. John Green, born in Manchester, entered with Lieutenant Clarke on 27 October 1808 as a Landsman volunteer. Joseph Lamb, born in Manchester, entered with Lieutenant Baly on 31 January as a Boy volunteer. The names of Peter Nicholson and Thomas Caker do not appear in his books. He has therefore sent the letter with the enclosed applications to Captain Colquitt and asked him to respond.

Folio 311: folio number not used.

Folio 312: enclosure with folios 309-310. Petition dated 23 February 1809 from Mary Lamb, c/o 66 Lumber, off Danes Gate, Manchester, to The Admiralty. Requests the discharge of her son Joseph who has been pressed. Her husband has enlisted in the 36th Regiment of Foot, leaving her destitute.

Folio 313: folio number not used.

Folios 314-315: enclosure with folios 309-310. Letter dated 13 February 1809 from Joseph Lamb, on board HMS Princess, to his parents. Reports that he was pressed going through Liverpool on the way to see his uncle in Formby. The press gang wanted him to volunteer but he refused. Asks they contact his uncle to get him out of this situation.

Folio 316: enclosure with folios 309-310. Petition dated 22 February 1809 from Eleanor Green, c/ 12 Booth Street, near Princess Street, Liverpool, to The Admiralty. Petition for the discharge of her son in exchange for a substitute.

Folio 317: attachment to folio 316. Copy of certificate of baptism of John, son of Joshua and Eleanor Green, of Stockport, born 30 March and baptised 22 April 1792 in the parish of Stockport, Cheshire, witnessed by Charles Prescot, Rector.
