Folios 282-283: Joshua Sydney Horton, Regulating Officer, Liverpool. Replying to the letter of 21 February. John Paterson, born in Swindon, was pressed by Lieutenant Clarke on 23 January and then entered as an Able volunteer. He arrived as Mate of the Alexander of Liverpool, is married, and is a very healthy subject. He returns the enclosure.
Folios 284-285: enclosure with folios 282-283. Letter dated 18 February 1809 by Lilly Patterson, c/o 22 Frederick Street, Liverpool, to The Admiralty. Requests the discharge of her husband, John Patterson, who has been pressed. She and her children have been left destitute without any support, and have come from Port Glasgow to Liverpool because of him being pressed. She has insufficient money to obtain substitutes but together with a friend will scrape together what is needed to find substitutes so he may be discharged.
