Description

Folios 237-238: Joshua Sydney Horton, Regulating Officer, Liverpool. Replying to the letter of 11 February. Simon Peterson, said to be born in Norway, was pressed by Lieutenant Rees on 1 February. He had no protection, came to Liverpool in the Diana, and was taken form the house of the applicant who is a notorious crimp. He is evidently a British subject. Robert Roberts, born in Anglesey, was pressed on 5 December 1808 by Lieutenant Evans as an Ordinary Seaman. He came to Liverpool in a Welsh sloop and was taken on shore. He said he was engaged for the Lark packet. Jose Dias. This name does not appear in the books at the Rendezvous. The application has been forewarded to Captain Colquitt on HHM Princess with a request for him to respond.

Folios 239-240: enclosure with folios 237-238. Letter dated 8 February 1800 by William Bond, 11 Denison Street, Liverpool, to The Admiralty. Simon Peterson, a foreigner, was pressed and is no board HMS Princess. Requests his discharge on production of 2 substitue able-bodied Landsmen.

Folios 241-242: enclosure with folios 237-238. Letter dated 9 February 1809 by Daniel Jones, James Street, Liverpool to The Admiralty. Petiton of Elizabeth Roberts, widow, of Aberffraw, Anglesey for the discharge of her son Robert Roberts who was pressed and is currently on board HMS Princess. He speaks no English.
