Folios 183-184: Joshua Sydney Horton, Regulating Officer, Liverpool. Responding to the letter of 3 February. Thomas Wells, born in Manchester, was brought to Lieutenant Clarke's Rendezvous on 20 January by a soldier who claimed a reward. The next morning he offered him as a substitute. Describes the circumstances. He was received into the Service and the soldier was given his payment. Thomas Green, born in Liverpool, was pressed by Lieutenant Evans on 14 January. He confessed he had arrived in the Tiger, and had formerly belonged to the Lord Cranstoun of Liverpool, but did not ever say that he had been an apprentice. He was claimed about one week later, but it was admitted that he had left his service and had given up his indenture. He returns the enclosures.
Folios 185-186: enclosure with folios 183-184. Letter etter dated 25 January 1809 by Joseph Wells, Manchester, to The Admiralty. Request for the discharge of his son, Thomas Wells, who came upon bad company when staying in Liverpool and was persuaded by a soldier to volunteer for the Navy, for which the soldier was paid. His son is aged 15 and needed in the family business.
Folio 187: enclosure with folios 185-186. Certificate dated 25 January 1809 issued by Joseph Brookes, Chaplain. Copy of an entry in the Register of the Collegiate and Parish Church of Christ in Manchester, relating to the christening of Thomas Wells, son of Joseph and Ann Wells, on June 9 1793.
Folios 188-189: enclosure with folios 183-184. Letter dated 2 February 1809 by William Graham, 5 Great Cross, Hall Street, Liverpool, to The Admiralty. His son, Thomas Green, is his lawful apprentice as a joiner and was pressed at Liverpool without his father's knowledge. He encloses the indenture [not present] and requests his discharge.
