Folios 147-148: Joshua Sydney Horton, Regulating Officer, Liverpool. Replying to the letter of 27 January. David Campbell, a native of Greenock, was pressed by Lieutenant Evans on 25 January. He stated he was Mate of the Brittania of Greenock, but was taken from another vessel in dock. He had no documents to prove he was to sail on her next voyage. Patrick Burke, born in Wexford, was pressed by Lieutenant Clarke on 22 January. He was taken on shore in the evening, intoxicated. Jeremiah Thompson, born in Lancashire, was sent by N. Grimshaw, Mayor of Preston, as a deserter from HMS Crane, Commander Lieutenant Tyndall [Tindale], at Plymouth. It appears he was employed as Clerk, and when the ship reached land on 26 October he left, first for London, then Preston. £2 16s has been paid for his capture and transfer. He returns the enclosures. Reports that he has today received an able-bodied Landsman as substitute for Robert Thomas, currently on board HMS Clorinde. A second person is promised in a few days, as directed in the letter of 26 October. The ship is apparently set for foreign service and he requests that Robert Thomas is not sent from port pending the second substitute appearing.
Folio 149: enclosure with folios 147-148. Letter dated 25 January 1809 by Wellwoood Maxwell, Liverpool, to The Admiralty. Folio 152-153: enclosure with folios 147-148. Letter dated 25 January 1809 by Hodgson and Pearson, Liverpool, to The Admiralty. Send the enclosed documents [not present] relating to Patrick Burke, Chief Mate of the brig General Moore of Wexford. He was taken on 22 January on the quay alongside his vessel. Request his discharge.
Folios 154: enclosure with folios 147-148. Letter dated 25 January 1809 by John Molyneux, Liverpool, to The Admiralty.
