Folios 100-101: Joshua Sydney Horton, Regulating Officer, Liverpool. Responding to the letter of 17 January and the request to report on Thomas Winn, alias John Smith. In the letter dated 5 November, responding to a request about Thomas Winn, an apprentice, he had reported that the name did not appear on the books at the Rendezvous, but on enquiry to HMS Princess it appears that a man calling himself John Smith was pressed by Lieutenant Baly on 17 October as an Ordinary Seaman. He was reported to have spent 3 years at sea. Lieutenant Braddels report was"appears on the books of HMS Princess John Smith pressed on 17 October Liverpool Rendezvous, does not appear to be an apprentice, having been at sea more than 12 months" (Signed) Jonathon Braddell". Captain Horton responded to the letter of 11 November regarding Thomas Winn, alias John Smith, as above. The letter of 17 December, requesting a report on Thomas Winn, alias John Smith, David Gaw, and John Cash, was forwarded to Captain Colquitt with a note asking him to respond.
Folios 102-103: enclosure with folios 100-101. Letter dated 14 January 1809 by James Brown, 77 Hanover Street, Manchester, to The Admiralty. He wrote a second time, approximately 1 month ago, about his apprentice who was pressed and put on board HMS Princess. He was entered by the name of John Smith but his real name is Thomas Winn. His indenture was enclosed in the last letter. Requests the discharge of the apprentice and return of enclosures
Folios 104-105: enclosure with folios 100-101. Letter dated 14 December 1808 by James Brown, Manchester, to The Admiralty. Writing again regarding his apprentice Thomas Winn, who was pressed at Liverpool and is on board HMS Princess. He entered under the name of John Smith. The enclosed letter has been received from him and is forwarded for information. His father and the author were on board HMS Princess and saw him there, and are willing to swear this.
Folios 106-107: enclosure with folios 100-101. Letter dated 9 December 1808 by Thomas Winn, HMS Princess, to James Browne, 77 Hanover Street, Manchester. Reports that he believes that it was Lieutenant Bradley who did not send his correct name to the Captain. He tried telling him that he used his own name. It was the Lieutenant's fault as he did not wish to let him go.
