Folios 31-32: Joshua Sydney Horton, Regulating Officer, Liverpool. Replying to the letter of 3 January. The books of the Rendezvous show that Patrick O'Neil was arrested by Lieutenant Evans on August 19 [1808]. Gives a description of the man, born in Ireland. He was taken as a result of his conduct in resisting the Lieutenant and gang who were executing their duty. Richard Banks entered with Lieutenant Rees on 5 December as a Landsman volunteer. He is a native of Lancashire. It is understood that his friends can provide a substitute. Captain Horton does not believe that he has a wife and three children, as he claimed to be single when he entered and the application is made by an Attorney in Liverpool. Samuel Stubbs entered with Lieutenant Clarke in 4 November [1808] as a Boy volunteer. He was born in Manchester and declared he was not an apprentice. He returns the enclosures.
Folios 33-34: enclosure with folios 31-32. Letter dated 30 December [1808] by Patrick O'Neil, on board HMS Resolue, Plymouth, to The Admiralty. He has received a letter from his wife in Liverpool with the enclosed affidavit asking him to send it to The Admiralty as she and her 4 children are distressed for want of food. He and his wife have lived as servants with R J Carew of Castelboro in the County of Wexford for 10 years. They also have a Malt and Spirit licence in the town of New Ross, which they operated for 8 years until the business failed. He left Ireland and took labouring jobs for 2 years. He is in poor health and getting on in years, and requests a discharge.

Sworn statement of the circumstances of Patrick O'Neil's taking by the press gang. They are all inhabitants of Liverpool.
Folios 36-37: enclosure with folios 31-32. Letter dated 31 December 1808 by P H Thompson, Slaters Court, Liverpool. States that Richard Banks, currently on board HMS Princess, has a wife and 3 children left destitute. One Landsman substitute has been found, James Lenard, and has been on board HMS Princess since 26 [December], but his wife is too poor to find another. Asks for Richard Banks to be discharged. He has never been to sea, and this was likely a drunken frolic.
