Folios 14-15: Joshua Sydney Horton, Regulating Officer, Liverpool. Replying to the letter of 30 December [1808]. James Saunders was pressed by Lieutenant Evans on 8 December. He was born in Dublin, and taken on information that he came in HMS Hercules, and acknowledged he had worked on the sea for more than 3 years. Griffiths Edwards was pressed by Lieutenant Rees on 7 June [1808]. He was born in Wales, said he had been a Mate, but was then unemployed. Thomas Jones was pressed by Lieutenant Evans on 13 November [1808]. He was born at Milford, said he was Mate of the Aurora of Dartmouth. He was taken from a house of ill repute. The case of George Stanfield was reported in the letter on 10 November [1808] (as per the letter of 3 December). He was pressed by Lieutenant Evans as an Ordinary (being occasionally employed in boats) from his mother's house. He was in company with 4 other Seamen who resisted and used weapons against the Officer and gang. The Surgeon of HMS Princess had reported that day (10 November) that the man suffers from frequent fits. Captain Horton applied for him to be discharged. The letter of 29 [December] in reply to the letter of 27 December stated that Henry Roberts entered with Lieutenant Rees on 25 November as an Ordinary volunteer. He was born in Wales and was first pressed but then entered the same morning. He said he was a Surgeon and hoped to be encouraged in his profession. As he imagines this letter was not received, he has not ordered his discharge and awaits a decision. He returns the enclosures.
Folios 16-17: enclosure with folios 14-15. Letter dated 28 December 1808 from Elizabeth Smith, Liverpool, to The Admiralty. Requests the release of James Saunders, who was pressed and is now on board HMS Princess, in exchange for a substitute she will find. She is a widow with 3 children and he is her only support.
Folios 18-19: enclosure with folios 14-15. Letter dated 29 December 1808 from Thomas Johns, on board HMS Princess, Liverpool, to The Admiralty. Requests his release, having lost his pregnant wife and being the sole support for his aged mother and 4 remaining children.
Folios 20-21: enclosure with folios 14-15. Petition dated 26 December 1808 by Margaret Rees for the release of Griffiths Edwards, who has been pressed but is the sole support for her and her dependants.
Folio 22: enclosure with folios 14-15. Letter dated 29 December [1808] from Elizabeth Stainfield, 112 Frederick Street, Liverpool to The Admiralty. Sends a petition and certificate of her son's birth. He is on board HMS Princess, but suffers from fits. Requests his discharge.
Folio 24: enclosure with folio 22. E Bruce, witness Richard Higginson. Certificate dateds 12 December 1808 stating that George, son of William and Elizabeth Stanfield, was born 3 March and baptized 17 June 1791, by the late David Bruce, Minister of Newington Chapel, Liverpool.
Folio 25: enclosure with folio 22. Petition dated 28 December 1808 by Elizabeth Stanfield on behalf of her son, who has been pressed. He suffers from fits and has never been able to work. Requests his discharge. She has two sons in His Majesty's Service and has no support other then what she receives from William Stanfield. John McCartney, Liverpool, 28 December 1808. Certifies that the son of Elizabeth Stanfield has been under his care for convulsions.
