Description

Folios 223-224: John Hayes, HMS Alfred, Spithead. He encloses certificates from four General officers whom he had brought home to England together with their suites. Whilst they were aboard he provided food and drink for 13 of them and this put him to considerable expense for which he asks that the usual allowance be paid to him.

Folio 225: enclosure with folios 223-224. Certificate signed by General Dyott and Major General Ferguson attesting to the fact that they and their staff were on board HMS Alfred after being picked up by Captain Hayes off Cape Finistere on 26 January 1809. They remained on board until they reached Portsmouth.

Folio 227: enclosure with folios 223-224. Certificate signed by Brigadier General Charles Alten attesting to the fact that he and his staff, which consisted of an aide de camp, a Major General and a Brigade Major together with their servants were taken on baord HMS Alfred at Vigo on 14th January and are still on board.

Folio 227: enclosure with folios 223-224. Certificate signed by General Robert Craufurd and dated 1 February 1809. Certificate attesting to the fact that he was taken on board HMS Alfred at Vigo on 18 January and remained on board until the ship reached Spithead
