Folios 238-239: Sydney Horton, Regulating Officer, Liverpool. James Sander, born Dublin, impressed by Lieutenant Evans on 28th December from HMS Hercules as he has been at sea for more than three years. Edward Nelson, born Whitehaven, impressed by Lieutenant Baly on 10th December, as he was drunk and entered as a volunteer on HMS Arethusa. John Jones, born in Wales,from the Constitution packet, impressed by Lieutenant Evans when he was in a public house at 10.30 pm. William Sanders, born Lancashire, impressed 21st June by Lieutenant Baly. John Millikin, born Antrim, impressed by Lieutenant Rees on 25th November as his Master had given him up from the Hercules. Charles O'Neill, born Ireland, volunteered with Lieutenant Baly on 25th November from the Hercules. Patrick Laffing, born Wexford, impressed by Lieutenant Evans, had a certificate as a Mate of the Speedwell. Two days before John Codd also produced a certificate as the Mate of the Speedwell. This has happened several times before so he is trying to stop the practice.
Folios 240-241: enclosure with folios 238-239. Letter dated 28 December 1808 by Charles O'Neill, HMS Princess, Liverpool. Asks for his release because of his aged mother. He will supply a landsman.
Folios 242-243: enclosure with folios 238-239. Letter dated 28 December 1808 by John Millikin, HMS Princess, Liverpool. He is a native of Belfast with a widowed mother and five siblings and was impressed from a Charity School just as he was old enough to help the family so he hopes for discharge.
Folios 244-245: enclosure with folios 238-239. Letter dated 26 December 1808 by John Gibbons 5 Nova Scotia, Liverpool. He asks for the release of John Jones if he can find substitutes.
Folios 246-247:enclosure with folios 238-239. Letter dated 26 December 1808 by Edward Nelson, HMS Princess, Liverpool. His father was killed in the Service 18 months ago and he is his siblings and mother's only support. He has friends who would help find landsmen as substitutes.
Folios 248-249: enclosure with folios 238-239. Letter dated 28 December 1808 by J. William, at Mr Leigh's Attorney's Office, Liverpool. Asks for release of a young man, no name, so he can look after his aged parents.
Folios 250-251: enclosure with folios 238-239. Letter dated 28 December 1808 by J. William. The name of the young man is William Sanders.
Folios 252-253: enclosure with folios 238-239. Letter dated 28 December 1808 by Henry and Shore Nodin, Greta Towie Street. Patrick Laffing was impressed from the sloop during discharge. He had a Master Mate bond and a Mayor's protection but was impressed because there was no right to appoint him Mate until the cargo was discharged. He has eight children under 11.
