Description

Folios 187-188: Sydney Horton, Regulating Officer, Liverpool. Evan Evans was impressed by Lieutenant Baly. He says he is the Mate of the Amity of Barmouth but has no papers. John Burn, entered with Lieutenant Clarke, was born in Ireland. William Dodd was impressed by Lieutenant Clarke from an oyster boat, the Thomas and Elizabeth from Ireland. A Blockmaker said he had been at sea. Thomas Jones was impressed by Lieutenant Evans from Milford from a house of ill repute. Horton does not believe the account in his letter. Richard Banks was entered by Lieutrenant Rees and was born at Lathm. George Berry has been dischraged from HMS Princess.

Folios 189-190: enclosure with folios 187-188. Letter dated 13 December 1808 by Richard Edwards, Master Amity, 3 George Yard, Lombard Street. Evan Evans is Bona Fide mate of the Amity and should be released.

Folio 191: enclosure with folios 187-188. Petition by Margaret Burns, widow, Fryday Street, Manchester. She has eight children. Two sons Edward and Peter Burns ran away and signed on HMS Salvadore but John a younger son was pressed and sent to Plymouth. She has not heard from Edward Burns and Peter Burns and has been left with five girls one of whom has had a stroke and is paralysed. John was the only support they had and earned six shillings a week. She begs for his release especially as she has two sons in the Navy.

Folio 192: enclosure with folios 187-188. John Daridge. Is sending an affadavit for William Dodd.

Folios 193-194: enclosure with folios 187-188. Petition of Thomas Jones. He is Mate of the Aurora of Dartmouth. He was waiting in a boarding house so he could board his ship with him when he was impressed as it was too late. He admits he was late but he did not know the boarding house had a bad reputation. As he has a helpless parents, five children and a wife with whom he has been for 20 years he has no need of that resort. he hopes to be released to support his wretched family.

Folios 195-196: enclosure with folios 187-188. Letter dated 13 December 1808 by Ellin Banks, John Hopforth Tythe Barn, Liverpool. her husband was a 'little in liquor' when he entered the Rendezvous. he has five children and is a labourer. She asks for his release.
