Folios 161-162: Sydney Horton, Regulating Officer, Liverpool. In reply to Captain Charlton, North Shields, Edward Powell, born in Flintshire, was impressed by Lieutenant Evans, and was employed on the Eastham boat but was released by the Admiralty as he was not a hand. The owners of these boats have not followed the orders for the Quota and continue to employ men without protection. Edward Powell abused |Officers so he felt it was his duty to impress him. Cornelius Samuelson was impressed by Lieutenant Rees, was born in Norway but is married in this town. He offered to discharge him as a foreigner if he was given a substitute but this has not happened. Thomas Guile was employed on a mailboat but was disatisfied with it and has behaved in a riotous manner to Officers here. The owners of the passage boats will not apply for protection and use loose hands as and when needed so he thought Guile was a subject for impressment. John Folhe was discharged for his good conduct.
Folios 163-163: enclosure with folios 161-162. Letter dated 10 November 1808 by Jane Clarke, wife of John Clarke or Harring and Mary Ashton, wife of Joseph Ashton, farmer, of Sutton and owner of a market boat between Eastham and Liverpool. Swear that their brother Edward Powell of Flintshire was never at sea as he was a farmer, but occasionally came from Eastham to Liverpool on his market boat. He is a landsman and liable to be impressed into the Militia.
Folios 165-166: enclosure with folios 161-162. Letter dated 29 August 1808 by Nicholas Lebre Consul to Denmark, Lancaster, Cornelius Samuelson, Liverpool. Samuelson is Danish and has protection so should be discharged.
Folios 167-168: enclosure with folios 161-162. Letter dated 5 November 1808 by William Roberts, Tranmere ferry. Thomas Guile was impressed from the ferry as the mail had been removed from Woodside ferry. he did not make a request for a new protection as he thought he was covered by the Post Office.
Folios 169-170: enclosure with folios 161-162. John Bonnington of Ormand Market. Thomas Dromgold is his lawful apprentice is impressed on HMS Princess and should be released.
