Description

Folios 688-689: Sydney Horton, Regulating Officer, Liverpool. He reports that he has detained Charles Foulter as the Surgeon on HMS Princess reports that is in good health and has not suffered from any fits. He has no record of a man called David Davies. He reports on the case of Joseph Bailey.

Folios 690-691: enclosed with folios 688-689. Letter dated 7 November 1808 from Elizabeth Foulter, written at Samuel Gibsons, Naylor Street. She asks for the discharge of her husband Charles Foulter. She says that he is not fit and is the only support for her and her family.

Folios 692-693: enclosed with folios 688-689. Letter dated 7 November 1808 from William Hardman, Master of the House of Industry, John Graham, Surgeon, the House of Industry, Liverpool. November 7, 1808.They state that Charles Foulter can be deranged at times. He has recently been employed by Mr. Fairclough. He has never been to sea.

Folios 694-695: enclosed with folios 688-689. Letter dated 7 November 1808 from Thomas Pryce, Flintshire. He writes on behalf of a young man who is not named stating that he is the sole support of of his aged parents.

Folio 696: enclosed with folios 688-689. Affidavit dated 31 October 1808 sworn before R Crewe JP, Flint. Richard davies and Thomas Likians swear that David Davies has never served at sea and is now an Apprentice.

Folios 697-698: enclosed with folios 688-689. Joseph Bailey, HMS Princess, Liverpool. He says that he has commanded merchant ships between London and the West Indies. In 1806 he was captured by a French privateer and taken into Guadeloupe. On his release and without a protection he was subsequently taken by the press gang.
