Description

Folios 679-680: Sydney Horton, Regulating Officer, Liverpool. He reports on the cases of James Baxter, Hugh McSwain, Francis Harkin, Matthew Cunningham and George Stainfield. Hugh McSwain was the Mate of the Kelly. He says that the Surgeon aboard HMS Princess reports that George Stainsfield suffers from frequent fits and he recommends his discharge.

Folios 681-682: enclosed with folios 679-680. Letter from James Baxter, HMS Princess. He says that earlier in the year he was impressed, but was discharged by the previous Regulating Officer due to his ill health. he has now been impressed again at the age of 53. He asks for his discharge.

Folios 683-684: enclosed with folios 679-680. Letter dated 6 November 1808 from Mary McSwain, Liverpool. She asks for the discharge of her son Hugh who is the only support for herself and her family as she is a widow. She asks to be allowed to find 2 substitutes.

Folio685: enclosed with folios 679-680. Letter from Margaret Hankin, 51 Primrose Street, Newton Lane, Manchester. She is a widow as her husband who was a Private in the 23 Foot Regiment, died on his return from Copenhagen. She writes to ask for the discharge of her son Francis who she says has suffered from fits since childhood.

Folios 686-687: enclosed with folios 679-680. Letter from Matthew cunningham, HMS Princess, Liverpool. He describes his ill health and asks for his discharge.
