Folios 579-580: Henry Hotham, HMS Defiance, off Lorient. Covering letter for the enclosed letter from Mr William Caught - Carpenter of HMS defiance and he request the Admiralty's direction. He reports that Mr Caught's merit and good conduct and that he is deserving of the most indulgent reward for his long and faithful service.
Folios 581-582: enclosure with folios 579-580. Letter dated 2 April 1807 by William Caught, HMS Defiance to Henry Hotham. HMS Defiance. Finding himself by Age, Infirmity and Long Service, incapable of discharging his duty as Carpenter of HMS Defiance. He request to be surveyed. He has served Thirty Eight years, Thirty One as Carpenter in the Navy.
