Folios 596-597: Thomas Hurd, Sloane Street. Acknowledges the letter asking for more detail on his request for pay and expenses. Reports that he has received no pay since 20 March 1805 but has been busy from then until June of that year copying charts and papers from the Hydrographic Office, both for the survey of Brest which he is about to begin and for the survey of Falmouth and Helford completed last November. His expenses include his journey from London to Plymouth and Falmouth, accommodation and stationery. Points out that in 1789 when he was asked to survey the Bermudas he was paid one guinea a day, and that his employment in surveying has reduced his chances of securing further promotion or prize money. Believes he is entitled to the same pay as an officer commanding the Sea Fencibles.
