Description

Folios 502-503: John Hancock, HMS Cruizer, Ostend. Thomas Coyle, said to be Chief Mate on the Scipio, was found onboard the Contre Admiral Magon, French Privateer. He replied to Admiral Holloway's latter thatthere was no one of thatname onboard as teh Vice Admiral's letter called him Thomas Hyle. He does not believe him to be chief Mate as he is only 19 year of age. He is sendingteh information requested and the letter fromVice Admiral Holloway.

Folio 504: enclosure with folios 502-503 dated 9 December 1805 from J. Holloway, HMS Caster, the Downs, to John Hancock, Commander of HMS Cruizer. He asks for a report on the case of Thomas Hyle, Mate of the Scipio who has been impressed and on HMS Cruizer.

Folios 505-506: enclosure with folios 502-503 dated 5 February 1805 from John Knight, London. He asks again for the release of Thomas Kyle or Coyle, Chief Mate of the Scipio, who was taken by a French Privateer, commanded by a Mr Blackman. Both vessels wee then taken by HMS Cruizer whose Captain denies he is onboard. He is sending an affidavit form Thomas Kyle that he was Chief Mate of the Scipio and must be onboard and wanted by the Owner of the Scipio which is lying at Shields. He asks for him to be discharged.
