Description

Folios 240-241: William Johnstone Hope, HMS Atlas, off the Texel. He encloses documents relating to the cases of William Bass, John Scott, William Buttersworth and Samuel Chittle.

Folio 242: enclosed with folios 240-241. William Johnstone Hope, HMS Atlas. William Bass was Mate of the Chesterfield when he was impressed and is willing to find a substitute for himself.

Folio 243: enclosed with folios 240-241. William Johnstone Hope, HMS Atlas. John Scott appears to be the Apprentice of Thomas Scott, owner of the Palladium of North Shields.

Folio 244: enclosed with folios 240-241. William Johnstone Hope, HMS Atlas. William Butterworth has admitted to belonging to the 16th regiment of dragoons.

Folio 245: enclosed with folios 240-241. William Johnstone Hope, HMS Atlas. Samuel Chittle appears to be the Apprentice of William Severn, Optician, Red Cross Street, London.

Folios 246-247: enclosed with folios 240-241. George Nailer, Gainsborough. He submits the petition of William Bass.

Folios 248-249: enclosed with folios 240-241. William Bass, Gainsborough, Lincs. A petition asking for his discharge, supported by 6 Gainsborough Merchants and Shipowners.

Folios 250-251: enclosed with folios 240-241. Letter from L. Noel asking for the discharge of John Scott.

Folios 252-254: enclosed with folios 240-241. Letter from T. Moore, War Office asking that William Butterworth is returned to the 16th regiment of dragoons and including a description of him.

Folios 255-257: enclosed with folios 240-241. Letter asking for the discharge of Samuel Chittle, Apprentice.
