Folios 495-496: Philip Hue, HMS Actaeon, Liverpool. Responding to Admiralty query of 1 October, says William Welsh has been questioned and has admitted to having made a voyage to Surinam, and he is a 'stout Ordinary Seaman',so the affidavit is false.
Folios 497: enclosure with folios 495-496. Sworn statement dated 27 September 1800 from James Mc Dermott, a sugar baker, saying he had known Welsh for a long time and that he had worked as a labourer throughout and never been at sea except on his voyage from Co. Wexford to Liverpool, to find employment to look after his family.
Folios 498-499: enclosure with folios 495-496. Letter dated 27 September 1800 by R. Kirkpatrick, Liverpool, that William Welsh had been impressed the previous Wednesday but the poor man has a wife and children dependent upon him. He sends the affidavit from James McDermott and asks that Welsh be discharged.
