Folios 456-457: Philip Hue, HMS Actaeon, Liverppool. Responding to Admiralty query of 9 September, says that Alexander Rice is a 'stout young sailor, very fit for HM Service', about 20. When impressed he had claimed to be American. Agrees that Thomas Bentley does appear to be the apprentice for whom the indentures were executed.
Folios 458-459: enclosure with folios 456-457. Letter dated 6 September 1800 from R. Kirkpatrick, Liverpool, on behalf of Rice, who was impressed from a merchant ship anchored in the port, saying the young man is not yet 17 and had barely seen any service at sea, asking for his discharge.
Folios 460-461: enclosure with folios 456-457. Letter dated 6 September 1800 from John Topham, Town Clerk's Office, sending the indenture papers for Thomas Bentley [not now present], and saying he had run from his master, so asking for his discharge.
